The
2010 Mazda Tribute is the smallest crossover SUV in the zoom-zoom family, but
it’s big on utility.
Under the Tribute’s hood is a 171-horsepower,
2.5-liter inline-four or an all-aluminum 240-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6, both of
which have variable cam technology and earn the Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle
award for the Tribute. A hybrid version is also available. Drivetrain options
include two- and all-wheel drive, and a five-speed manual or a six-speed
automatic transmission. The Tribute earned 18-22 mpg city and 23-28 mpg highway
ratings from the EPA.
For added environmental friendliness, both engines
are now Flex Fuel capable. Horsepower and fuel economy are competitive with the
Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4; of particular importance, the Honda CR-V does not
offer a V-6, leaving the Tribute a much higher-powered vehicle when properly
equipped. Functionality is high with over 1,100 pounds of payload capacity and
up to a 3,500-pound tow rating.
A fun-to-drive character is part of every
Mazda; the strong unibody frame with four-wheel independent suspension and
rack-and-pinion steering add to a great driving dynamics package. Variable
assist electric power steering enhances the driving experience by making parking
lot maneuvers easy and high speed driving fun – steering effort is changed to
match the situation. The electric power steering also helps with fuel
economy.
Interior accommodations include plenty of cargo room, to the
tune of 31.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and 67.2 cubic feet with the rear
seats down. The base Sport model comes equipped with a CD player, automatic
headlights, fog lights and 16-inch alloy wheels. The Touring model rides with
style thanks to a six-CD changer and seven-speaker audio system, as well as a
power-adjustable driver’s seat. The ultimate Tribute is the Grand Touring model,
which adds leather seats with heat for the front two, a leather-wrapped steering
wheel, a backup camera and a power moonroof.
As it’s no fun to drive in
an unsafe vehicle, this fun ride comes equipped with antilock brakes and
electronic brake-force distribution, for maximum braking effectiveness. Mazda’s
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Roll Stability Control (RSC) help the driver
keep the 2010 Mazda Tribute under control when grip is compromised. A full set
of six airbags join the sturdy unibody frame to earn the Tribute stellar
Five-Star crash ratings in all NHTSA impact tests.
Fun and functionality,
safety and affordability describe the well-equipped, well-priced 2010 Mazda
Tribute.
